The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a statement regarding global access to cataract surgery. According to the WHO, half of the more than 94 million people living with cataracts worldwide cannot get the treatment they need. The situation is especially critical in Africa, where three out of four people who require surgery go without it. To address this, the organization is urging countries to include eye exams in basic primary healthcare and to invest in medical equipment to help more patients receive these essential operations.
