Health Secretary Wes Streeting is preparing to offer junior doctors a bigger pay raise than other NHS employees in an effort to end their ongoing dispute. He plans to increase the standard 2.5% pay offer for the 2026/27 financial year specifically for these doctors, potentially doubling the amount.

Beyond pay, Streeting intends to improve working conditions by fining hospitals that fail to provide staff with proper rest areas and hot food. A senior official from the doctors' union said there are no current plans for more strikes, noting that the negotiations are making good progress.
