Ukraine cuts Russia's Starlink access, Zelenskyy reports 55,000 troops killed, and Abu Dhabi talks resume
February 5, 2026

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced that the Starlink terminals Russian forces used for drone strikes have been shut down. Kyiv is now working to verify and approve a "white list" of authorized devices to prevent further misuse. Meanwhile, the Kremlin refused to comment on reports that President Emmanuel Macron's top diplomat held secret talks in Moscow.
Peace remains a distant goal, as Moscow insists that Ukraine give up the Donbas region, a demand that Kyiv has flatly rejected. In an interview with a French news outlet, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy estimated that 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died in the conflict so far. According to officials, three-way negotiations to end the war have started again in Abu Dhabi.
