UK baby formula recalled as 36 children fall ill from toxins

Thirty-six children in the UK have fallen ill after drinking baby formula that was recently pulled from store shelves. Health officials are investigating these cases, which appear to be linked to a specific type of bacterial toxin.
The UK Health Security Agency reported that the children showed symptoms matching cereulide poisoning, a type of illness caused by toxins that can develop in dairy or starchy foods. All of the affected children had consumed formula from batches that were part of a recent safety recall.
Earlier this month, the Food Standards Agency issued a recall for specific products made by two major brands. These include certain SMA formulas produced by Nestlé and Aptamil formula made by Danone. The recall was launched because of concerns that the products might contain the cereulide toxin, which can lead to vomiting and other digestive issues.
