In studies involving mice, blocking this enzyme prevented weight gain, reduced liver damage, and lowered levels of harmful cholesterol. The research team is now developing a new drug that could treat obesity, fatty liver disease, and heart disease all at once. The lead author, Dr. Jonathan Stamler, said this discovery marks the beginning of an entirely new class of medicine.
