Earlier in the week, the minister in charge promised to grant residency to the 6,300 healthcare workers affected by the change. However, opposition leaders called this move insufficient. These officials criticized the minister's decision and demanded a "grandfather clause," a legal rule that would protect the rights of immigrants who were already living and working under the old system.
