President condemns Israeli herbicide spraying as an environmental crime and vows to take legal action
February 5, 2026

Lebanon has accused Israel of spraying the herbicide glyphosate over farmland in the southern part of the country. Lebanon's president condemned the act as a crime against both public health and the environment, vowing to take legal action. Laboratory tests confirmed the chemical used was glyphosate, a substance the World Health Organization labels as a probable cause of cancer.
Lebanese officials reported that the concentration of the weedkiller was many times higher than normal. They warned that the spraying threatens food supplies and the livelihoods of local farmers. The founder of an environmental group noted that this incident is part of a growing pattern of long-term environmental damage to the region.
