In January, sales of new petrol-powered cars in Norway hit an all-time low. According to data from the Norwegian Road Traffic Information Council, only seven new petrol cars were sold across the entire country last month. In contrast, the same report shows that drivers bought over 2,000 battery electric vehicles during the same period.

A director from the council explained that these low January figures happened because customers rushed to buy cars in December to avoid upcoming tax hikes. Experts expect registration numbers to climb again later this year.
