This feature, known as the quantum metric, was detected where two oxide materials meet: strontium titanate and lanthanum aluminate. Researchers from the University of Geneva, working with colleagues in Italy, published their findings in the journal Science. Their work shows that this quantum metric is a basic trait of many materials rather than a rare exception. These results open new ways to explore quantum geometry in future electronics and superconductivity, a state where electricity flows without any resistance.
