Mitch McConnell, the 83-year-old Republican senator, was admitted to the hospital on Monday night with symptoms similar to the flu. According to a statement from his office, his prognosis is positive. The statement explained that he checked himself into a local hospital for an evaluation "out of an abundance of caution" after feeling unwell over the weekend.

According to Politico, McConnell missed Senate votes on both Monday and Tuesday. The report noted that McConnell is a polio survivor who has dealt with ongoing mobility issues and several recent falls. These incidents include a concussion at the Waldorf Astoria in 2023 and another fall at the Capitol last year. He served as the leader of the Republican caucus from 2007 to 2025. Last year, he announced he would not run for re-election in 2026, marking the end of a career spanning more than 40 years.
