Health Minister Sonia Bélanger has introduced Bill 19 to amend the previously passed Law 2. This new legislation repeals several parts of the original law to reflect a deal made with the Federation of General Practitioners of Quebec (FMOQ).

As part of this agreement, the government will no longer seek the legal power to set doctor pay rates through regulations. The deal with the FMOQ sets a goal to provide care for 500,000 more patients, including 180,000 people who are considered vulnerable. Taking on these new patients will be voluntary for doctors. Lawmakers must pass this new bill before the original Law 2 takes effect on February 28.
