Their demands follow the release of emails between Wasserman and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, dating back to 2003. Local leaders, including a county supervisor and members of the city council, argue that his presence has become a distraction from Olympic planning. The published emails contain flirtatious messages in which Wasserman wrote that he thought of Maxwell often and mentioned receiving massages. Wasserman has said he regrets the exchange, denies having any relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, and pointed out that the emails are more than 20 years old.
