A man was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday for an attack on a Montreal couple during an attempted bitcoin robbery. Joe-Marshall Altidort pleaded guilty to charges including breaking and entering and armed robbery after forcing his way into a home with several accomplices in June 2023.

Once inside, the intruders tied up the victims, held them at gunpoint, and demanded a transfer of cryptocurrency, ignoring the cries of a baby in the house. The couple managed to escape, and the thieves fled without the bitcoins, though they did steal cash and jewelry. The judge handed down the heavy sentence, citing the violent nature of the crime and the need to denounce home invasions.
