Japan's PM Sanae Takaichi Secures Landslide Win in Lower House Election

Japan's ruling conservative party is on track for a landslide victory in the lower house elections, according to early exit polls. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who made history last autumn as the nation's first female leader, appears to have secured a strong public mandate.
The polls suggest that Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and its coalition partner are headed for a commanding majority. Many analysts view these early results as a clear vote of confidence in her leadership.
However, the win comes despite growing public debate over her economic strategy and an ongoing diplomatic row with China. Election officials also noted that heavy storms and poor weather across much of the country may have led to a low turnout at the polls.
