Iran monitors and threatens the families of exiled BBC Persian journalists
February 7, 2026

Exiled journalists at BBC Persian report that the Iranian government is tracking them and harassing their families back home. According to the reporters, officials have interrogated their relatives, threatened them with arrest, and frozen their assets. To prove the reach of their surveillance, agents have even shared specific details about where the journalists work to pressure them into stopping their coverage of civil unrest. The reporters also state they have received credible threats of kidnapping and murder while living in the UK. Because of this intimidation, some staff members have felt they had no choice but to quit their jobs to protect their families from financial ruin or physical harm.
