Home Office: Nearly 60,000 people have left the UK since the 2024 election, says Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood

Since the 2024 election, nearly 60,000 people have been deported or have left the UK voluntarily, according to the Home Office. The department reported that this total includes 15,200 people removed for being in the country illegally and another 43,000 who chose to leave after officials told them they did not have the right to stay.
The government also confirmed that more than 8,700 foreign national offenders, people who have committed crimes while in the UK, have been deported. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated that she plans to increase the number of deportations even further.
However, representatives from migrant charities have criticized these actions. They accused the government of encouraging harmful stereotypes and trying to strip away basic human rights protections.
