Gunmen kill at least 162 in Woro village as Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq blames terrorist cells

Gunmen killed at least 162 people in Woro village, located in western Nigeria's Kwara State, according to Babaomo Ayodeji, the local Red Cross secretary.
Police confirmed the attack, which the state government blamed on "terrorist cells." Sa’idu Baba Ahmed, a local lawmaker, said the gunmen stormed the village around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The attackers set fire to shops and the king’s palace, forcing many residents to flee into the surrounding bush. The whereabouts of the traditional king remain unknown.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq condemned the massacre, calling it "a cowardly expression of frustration by terrorist cells." He suggested the violence was a reaction to increased military pressure on jihadists and armed bandits. Local news outlets reported that the army recently killed 150 bandits during an offensive.
Before the attack, state authorities had imposed curfews and temporarily closed schools. This violence reflects a broader security crisis across Nigeria. The report also mentions that the Nigerian government has rejected claims from former US President Donald Trump regarding a "genocide" against Christians in the region.
