Florida now requires all driving tests to be taken in English
February 7, 2026

Florida state officials say a new law now requires all driving tests to be taken only in English. Before this change, the state offered the exams in several languages, including Spanish and Haitian Creole.
Advocacy groups are criticizing the move, saying the law creates a harmful barrier that will mostly affect immigrants and people who do not speak English well. They argue that having a driver's license is necessary for daily life because Florida does not have enough public transportation. While some other states also limit the languages available for driving tests, Florida's new policy does not offer any alternatives for people who are not fluent in English.
