Congressional Democrats promise justice for Americans harmed by immigration officers, telling them: You deserve peace.

Congressional Democrats held a hearing without their Republican colleagues present, offering apologies and promising accountability after victims shared harrowing accounts of violence at the hands of federal immigration agents.
Luke and Brent Ganger, brothers of Renee Good, testified that an ICE officer shot and killed their sister in Minneapolis as she tried to drive away. They spoke of the deep distress their family has suffered since her death.
Three U.S. citizens, Marimar Martinez, Aliya Rahman, and Martin Daniel Rascon, also shared their stories of being shot, violently dragged from cars, injured, or detained by Border Patrol and ICE agents. Martinez testified that she was shot five times. She added that an agent identified during the hearing as Charles Exum shared photos of her injuries as "trophies." Her testimony led to calls for Exum’s arrest and prosecution.
Robert Garcia, a California Representative and lead Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, joined Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal in vowing to hold those responsible for the violence accountable. They also criticized Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, while California Senator Alex Padilla expressed disappointment that no Republicans attended the hearing.
