Jon Hallford, a Colorado funeral home owner, has been sentenced to 40 years in state prison for the abuse of 189 bodies. According to reports, Hallford and his ex-wife, Carie Hallford, left decaying remains in a building for several years while handing families fake ashes. During the sentencing hearing, relatives of the deceased called Hallford a "monster," while the judge described his crimes as causing "unspeakable and incomprehensible" harm. The couple pleaded guilty to nearly 200 counts of abusing a corpse and also faced federal fraud charges. Following these discoveries, Colorado officials updated the state's funeral home regulations.
