The Carney government has eliminated the position of Canada's special representative on combatting Islamophobia, held by Amira Elghawaby, along with the vacant role of special envoy for preserving Holocaust remembrance and combatting antisemitism. According to an announcement by Minister Marc Miller, these individual roles will be replaced by a single advisory committee.

The Minister stated that this change is intended to move toward the next stage of national unity and reconciliation, rather than being a response to any specific controversy. Amira Elghawaby's appointment in 2023 had sparked backlash, particularly over her previous comments regarding Quebecers and Islamophobia, which led the Quebec government to call for her resignation. The Holocaust envoy position had been empty since July and was previously held by Deborah Lyons and Irwin Cotler.
