South Korea is making a strong push to win a major Canadian submarine contract by offering a wide range of industrial partnerships. Stephen Fuhr, a former Canadian Member of Parliament, is currently leading a business delegation on an official visit to the country to discuss the deal.
The South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha has pledged to meet all delivery deadlines. They are also offering to sign economic agreements across several different industries, provided Canada chooses their submarine design. Meanwhile, the German firm TKMS is also in the running, insisting they can meet the 2035 target date for delivery. Ultimately, Canada’s final decision will hinge on which company can prove their bid will bring the greatest economic benefits to the country.
