Brexit Blow: UK Farm Exports to the EU Drop 37% With Poultry Hit Hardest

British exports of farm products to the European Union have tumbled by 37.4% over the last five years, according to a recent report. An analysis by the National Farmers’ Union, which used data from the UK’s tax office, found that poultry exports took the biggest hit, followed closely by beef, lamb, and dairy.
The president of the farmers’ union noted that while Brexit is not the only reason for the drop, these numbers reveal the true extent of the damage. He added that it will take a long time to win back those customers and rebuild demand.
In response to these challenges, British and European officials are now scheduling regular political meetings. They hope these talks will help smooth over negotiations and reset the trading relationship between the two sides.
