Maison Benoît Labre is waiting on government funding to move its facilities. Three months after the Quebec government passed a law requiring the center to relocate its supervised injection site, the organization is still waiting for the promised money to be released.
The law forbids injection sites from operating within 150 meters (about 500 feet) of a school. This rule applies directly to the center because of its location near Victor-Rousselot school. The head of the organization says they cannot move forward without a clear commitment from the province.
A meeting with the minister's office is scheduled to discuss the matter. Meanwhile, a local official warned that if the project does not move quickly enough, vulnerable people might lose access to essential health services.
