Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company, has launched a new advertising campaign that takes aim at its rival, OpenAI. The ads criticize OpenAI's plan to bring commercials to the ChatGPT chatbot.

In the campaign, Anthropic suggests that other AI platforms will soon fill conversations with targeted ads. By contrast, the company promises that its own chatbot, Claude, will stay ad-free.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called the advertisements dishonest. He clarified that OpenAI's ads will be kept separate from the main chat, will be clearly labeled, and will never share private user conversations with advertisers.

Anthropic was originally started by researchers who used to work at OpenAI. While the two companies are now competing for users, OpenAI noted that its advertising policy has not actually gone into effect yet.
