Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has officially opened Canada’s new consulate in Nuuk, Greenland. During the ceremony, Anand stated that the move signals Canada’s commitment to standing with the people of Greenland and Denmark on vital issues like Arctic security and regional defense.

Greenland’s Foreign Minister, Vivian Motzfeldt, called the opening a "historic day," describing it as a way to deepen the friendship between the two neighbors. The event was also attended by Governor General Mary Simon and Natan Obed, the president of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, the organization representing Inuit across Canada.

The new consulate has taken on greater strategic importance recently, as NATO allies have voiced stronger support for the sovereignty of Greenland and Denmark in the North.
